The last couple of years I don't think I've seen any of the SNECs out of overalls, even the Chief has been known to pop on a set when required.

It must be disheartening for someone to have spent 20 years of their life working for an organisation, reaching what is supposed to be a relatively Senior level and still having to "muck in" with the lads when required.

Saying that, some Seniors I'm sure used to think doing jobs/menial tasks was completely beneath them - which is obviously not the correct attitude to have!

I remember one of our old SNECs coming out to help us empty the hangar bins one night - until we pointed out that A) we could manage and B) It wasn't really a fitting job for a Sergeant!!

Our Chief is never out of his denims these days, neither are the SNCO's....

Wheres the incentive to get promoted, as has been said before, if your gonna be treated like an SAC after 20+ years, why bother?

Things have now hit rock bottom as far as i'm concerned.
Here I am a 20 year SNCO doing tool stores because we have nobody else to do it.
Not a huge issue for me if they want to pay me 80 odd quid a day to sit on my arse doing a job an AMM is capable of, but hardly efficient use of manpower.

Less then 2 years to do and in my opinion it can't pass quick enough. I have seriously had enough of the Government and our management treating us like crap.

There is a theme to what everyone has said here, that being our lords and masters have taken away all the fun that was in the forces and what made people want to join and stay in for as long as they could

Agreed mate, when I joined up it was for life, or so I thought. Not any more.

Try myself. 24 years and I'm a data entry clerk. I have no senior responsiblitilies working in the worst organization i have ever seen (Thanks BAE). PMA came back today with authorization for my PVR.

GOOD...

I will have to put the overalls on again for the B1, but so does everybody else leaving in that field. Can't wait...

An example being this very night Wobbly, when you had a SNCO doing outside man for you during a ground run. I remember in my younger days that it always used to be the job of the newbies to do those type of jobs, but now you are relying on the benevolence of the seniors to help you get the job done.
Unfortunately, as seniors, we have now reached a position that we cannot adopt the attitude that any task is 'beneath' us or we will not get the job done.
It's a sad state of affairs when SNCO's are having to do assesments at home in their own time because they are too busy on the workface during normal hours, remember when seniors used to get extra leave for this very reason. It could be a real struggle when these assessments will only be able to be completed on a JPA terminal, especially to those guys on OOA with only very limited JPA access.

someone else is doing my OW job? i better get back home quick!!!

this government and the high ups don't seem to realise that to get us to move we need a carrot dnagling in front, not to be hit repeatedly over the backside witha big stick. and all these think tanks and stuff only seem to come up with ways to make the stick bigger... (no rude jokes now lads- i know what your thinking). :(

I never thought I wouldn't do the full stretch to 55 but I'm now looking over the fence so to speak with 8 years to go. We have been let down by our own airships as well as the government. I had to laugh on Wednesday this week though as I posted my CV onto monster.co.uk which triggered a PWR to Al Udeid LOL. I find it amusing just for the comedic timing. Job search deferred until the back end of 08.:raf:
