Queen and Country the Art Fund
Queen and Country the Art Fund
Guys and gals,
don't know how many of you are aware of this but:
In September 2007, Queen and Country was presented by The Art Fund to the Imperial War Museum, where it forms part for the permanent collection. It will be on public display until 6 January 2008.
But the work, commissioned by the Imperial War Museum and Manchester International Festival, is incomplete. Steve McQueen's original vision was for a set of official postage stamps to be issued by Royal Mail.
The Art Fund now seeks public support to allow the artist to complete this powerful and moving work of art by issuing stamps for circulation.
During the six days McQueen spent in Iraq, he was moved and inspired by the camaraderie of the servicemen and women that he met. He proposed that portraits of those who have lost their lives during the conflict be issued as stamps by Royal Mail.
