Its a F-111 (C or G versions, the RAAF use both (The C's were new builds, The G models were second hand Ex USAF FB-111A's)), Not F1-11, though you could also call it an Ardvark or its more common name in US service, The 'Electric Pig'.

Wow thats great footage and well done to them lads, a newbie pilot as well.

Hopefully it will bring them to stardom and we will see them making an emergency landing in ramsey street soon :pDT_Xtremez_42:

Fair play it takes balls!

can't help questioning why he took the RHAG though, the immediate drop in speed and descent to hard ground could have been fatal. Guess Kinematics have never heard of him though ! :))

Good landing in those circumstances.

I dont think he had much choice but to land it, i don't think anyone has survived an ejection from a F-111 :pDT_Xtremez_21:

Found this on Aussie site

Of the RAAF F-111 crashes where ejection had been initiated, only one resulted in fatalities which was due to the initiation being outside the ejection envelope.

And I believe the 12 may one was not RAF but the last flight by Fleet Air Arm PTF ( Phantom Training Flight)

They have indeed survived. I spent the evening chatting to a survivor a few years ago. He described the experience as one he wouldn't like to have again. But he and his nav went on to fly over 100 combat sorties in Viet Nam.

There have been a fair few survivors. You may be confusing yourself with the F104.. Even the 104 stories maybe crewroom tales

Anyone ever see the video footage of a Tonka belly landing at Cottesmore? We were shown it on the liney Q course (when they still did them). I think it was an Italian trainee pilot who basically f**ked it up.

The Italians did it at least twice, just as one was fixed and pulled out of hanger, ('I41' I think), they went and did it again!!!

Of the 3 GR1 belly landings that I know of (1 each Brit (at Coningsby), German & Italian aircraft), each one was piloted by ex F104 jockeys who, if the info is correct, all had undercarriage pre selected up but fell foul of the Tonka's undercarriage doors temporarily providing lift, U/C Doors up - loss of lift coupled with insufficient speed - aircraft sinks onto the runway.:raf:

We did a det to Eggebeck with the Deutche Marinefliegers who had 104s. An armourer was showing me around the cockpit and I asked why the seat pins were missing, he replied because we don't have enough cartridges to go around some seats don't need pins. Hmn never was sure if he was joking but there were plenty of crashes where no attempts were made to bang out.
