Well you should have stayed at school a bit longer, then you might have had enough qualifications to gain an apprenticeship with Marconi Instruments and a BTEC in Telecommunications thereby avoiding the need to graft unnecesarily etc etc!! Deary me, you seem so bitter these days, what happened??

Reading the views on a few fellow goaters. A better financial package, is a good idea for everyone ( We could definatly need it). Speaking from a techie prospective I joined up to fix Aircraft, though I could never understand WHY the RAF never trained us to the standard of education the Civil Aviation Authority requires for normal aircraft engineers. Alot of goaters are probably saying," here we go again, we would all be out the door if the RAF did that". However this is were the top brass have missed an oppurtunity. You join up into whatever techie trade you want to be a part of. The RAF train you to be of the same standard, either through the classsroom or through on the job training, to that equivilant to the CAA. Making sure of course the CAA recognises this. In return for this, knowing that a Civil Aircraft maintenance licence could be obtained. You have to complete nine years service with no chance of a PVR. If after the nine years you decided to carry on in the Air Force, fine. If you decide to leave. You have a great chance of getting a decent job in the Civilian aircraft Industry. The RAF say they are big an recuritment, giving Civilian recognised qualifiactions as an incentive. Giving an incentive of training equal to that required by the CAA I think is a great way to keep techies in. The more years you do. The More training you get. Money would also have to be a factor that would go in line with the training and responsability. These latest rumours of financial incentives, go no way close to make folks think about staying on. If the top brass are going to try and make people stay in. I think it has got be something folks could all do with, including money.:pDT_Xtremez_35:

Great idea , but i think the paying to qualified engineers is a no no ,I dont think the budget can pay it. As an engineer in the RAF you qualify for 90% of jobs in civvy street that look for engineering , cause you have Military training they know you will say yes to any job as long as they give an incentive (money ) and they have that. The reason now everyone is gettin out is simple . you walk into these jobs as trained people better than what civvy street can provide, you do a brill job for them as you get qualified good and have that military ooomph (get the job done).Reward = money, its what makes people work.untill the people above pay to what civvy street is offering then they always gonna suffer. At present Browns policy is for every pound spent on defence is a pound wasted , kinda harsh words for a then a guy in charge of funds !!! Hes now the boss !!! cnut !!!

My sgt got given 9 days notice for a DEODS Man 1 course so he could get his chief up, extra 3 years and a certain posting. No-one is completely sure what happens if he fails it.

Rumour currently circulating is that all sgts will have to do a man 1 course to get their chiefs.

Anyone fancy it!!!:pDT_Xtremez_32:
