Something gone on in the skies around 7:15am?

I saw this morning that there were three vapour trails in the clear sky this morning. Nothing unusual you might say when under a flight path for Manchester Airport, these trails were not making smooth curves. Two trails were close together (i.e. two aircraft in formation) and one was by itself.

These vapour trails would suddenly change direction, and the trails would look like they just did a very tight turn, often heading back at the single lone vapour trail. Instant reaction that what I saw was some of our own being up there doing training or intercepting something (like another bear)... hmm...

(and bloody hell I'm knackered after last night's drinking :pDT_Xtremez_09: )

If it was within 50 miles of Manchester airport, it would have been civvy. The Isotherm was fairly low this morning, so you have aircraft at a lower level, which you would not normally expect to, would have been creating contrails. Take into account the Machester SIDs and STARS and the procedures for other regional airports nearby and there's your answer.

Don't know if it was near Manchester, as you had t look over Yorkshire way to see them, and they were at quite an altitude because all that was visible was vapour trails (even with binoculars).

Because I live in Oldham (profile states NW Manchester), and Oldham is in the far North East and is almost into Yorkshire? :pDT_Xtremez_14:

My mistake for not saying what region I saw the vapour trails in.

Oldham is in fcuking Manchester - and the last time I looked, Manchester wasn't 'near' Yorkshire, unless some fcuker has moved it without telling anyone apart from you.

Or do you mean 'near' as in the sense of London is 'near' Bristol.

It's fcuk all, my lad works in the tower in Manchester and he says nothing unusual happened today.

I live about 40 miles from Manchester airport and 2o from Finningly and what you describe Rich are daily sightings here. this morning was unusual in that there were no clouds and I counted 31 separate vapour trails at 1000 this morning some were straight some had sharp turns.

I won't be losing any sleep over it though and anyway Oldham is nowt but a suburb of Manchester.::p:

And if they were 'chasing bears' anywhere near Manchester (however near that may have been) then we have already fcuked up beyond biblical proportions.

Contrails near an airport? My guess would be some airliners.

I think we should stop discussing this - it may be something to do with "that" conspiracy we're all supposed not to know about...

'Avoiding action' is the correct phraseology.
It would be advice passed from a controller to a pilot to 'avoid' an erosion in separation.

Evasive action is just movie talk.

I have no idea what those contrails could indicate, although it is quite hard to tell from the ground what is going on several thousand feet above you. Your perspective will be different and met conditions could all have an affect in what would 'appear' to be a near miss.

Is your spell-checker off?
