hey all am new to the site so go easy lol.

Im a rigger in the service and am wanting to move over to the RAAF permanant asap. the proccess seems simple ish enough, however they say you cant join if you have a reserve commitment, mine being 6 years!!!

Does anyone know of anyone who has moved over or any way of loosing the reserve commitment.

or any further advice or knowledge would be greatly appreciated.

i appologise if this is in the wrong section and look forward to your responses

I had always believed that you didn't have reserve commitment if you lived abroad, but can't quote anything on it.

I know of several people who PVR'd and moved to the RNZAF recently and one orifice who did the same but joined the RAAF. They didn't have any problems with reserve commitments. If memory serves, if you emigrate you become a Category 'E' reservist which basically means we will recall you only in the event of WW3.

Your best bet is to get in touch with Australia House to see if they have an active recruitment programme going on at the moment.

thanks guys, i have been in touch with the aus house and they say you must be completly clear including reserve, so the cat of reserve would be no odds as far as i know.

ref the orifices i think it is slightly different for them im told, as per fing usual!!

i do hear a few have gone to the rnzaf, i can only assume they have no reserve issues. i have emailed them for info though just to check.

however the aus navy are not interested in the reserve, just my luck hey lol

looking forward to further knowledge bursts

ps true blue jack if you have their contact details that would be great to get in touch with them.

I'll see what I can dig up, although I haven't spoken to them in the year or so since I was posted from the unit they were discharged from.

It might be worth dropping a PM to WingNut as he has just done all the paperwork for the RAAF he may be able to help you out

The way Mrs P did it was to have PMA write a letter confirming that any committment to the reserve service had been waived. I suggest getting hold of someone at PMA and speaking to someone there.

She had the letter done before she left matey, I'm not sure who at PMA she got to sort it out, but I will ask and let you know.

I joined the RNZAF in May but did 22 yrs so no reserve issues. I'll ask one of the younger chaps what they did but I think you can write and get off the reserve list. Give me a couple of days and I'll get the answer.

Why do you want to join the RAAF? The pay is pretty crap from what i can gather!

Why don't you just fill out the paperwork, jack the airforce in and emigrate. There's plenty of work here and the airforce would have to find you first to get you to do any reserve!! I take it you're not going to be on a pension?

Not sure if you've already got the gen yet but if not the nest route is to send a letter to PMA. Enclose a copy of your job offer from the RAAF. PMA will then waiver your reserve service requirements. If, however, you leave your employment with the RAAF before your reserve liability is up, you'll still be in the frame for the remainder.
