Your station flying club would be a good start.

Get the number of the OiC from The Stn Adj or SWO.

Flying Clubs

If there isnt a flying club on station (not sure where you are) it would be a good idea to look at the following website

http://www.procommercesolutions.co.uk/raffca/homepage/

This is the RAF Flying Club Association website with all the RAF Flying Clubs listed and also helpful information

I am currently at Akrotiri undertaking my PPL training (20hrs so far) and our Flying Club has just joined the association, although the club has been running since 1992

there used to be a scholarship type thing that raf junior ranks could apply for.
cant remember the name of it, but i'm sure someone on here will know it.
basically, they take 2 juniors every year and heavily subsidise their flying lessons

It is the Philip Sassoon award (not sure about his first name but I'd preety sure of his last). I think it got you about 40 hrs of flying...You have to go to the OASC the same as O/NCA candidates to get it...

and apologies for the misinformation, i was pretty sure it had been sold to me as a chance for junior ranks to get flying

It is...it was normally offered to a few JR's who shone on their FT courses...They would then go down to the OASC for some testing and an interview and two would be selected...

A friend of mine was selected to go for the tests and at the end of it was told that he hadn't been awarded the flying scholorship (The pessimist inside me says it's because he has no lumpy bumps and wasn't ethnically challenged...look at who does get it to see what I mean) but that he could go aircrew as his testing had been impressive!! He's now on squadron at ISK...

Well thanks for the replys, Im at what used to be RAF stafford, and is now the aptly named Beacon Barracks.

We dont have a flying club here, probably because we dont have a runway!

There is one club that is registered for the ELC scheme (Enhanced Learning credits- not Early Learning centre!!!!)

Don't know which one it is (think its Morray) but sure Eucation centre of Force development or whatever the building may be called nowadays, will.

So if you registered can get a grand or two for that and if you tie it in right and drag it over april and use your SLC for some bits, should cover most of your costs.

All the best
