Make sure you do it correctly!. Remember, you are not allowed to take more than one 'successful' sample from the same body part during the course of an investigation regarding non-intimate samples.

This question really scares me. You need to ask this sort of thing at one in the morning???

What next "Which way do I turn the nut to tighten it?" on the techie boards or "What does the pedal on the right in the footwell of the Astra do?" in the MT section?

I REALLY hope this was some sort of **** take.

Trenchard you clearly dont have to tighten a nut whilst struggling with someone who dislikes you. The question which has been asked is for advice on how to do it better its called sharing experiences and allows people to carry out tasks better. Now as this is in the coppers forum and your clearly here to take the pi$$ please dont talk about things you dont have the first clue about and I will do the same when someone comments on your trade!

Nutty Bird best advice I can give is let them know they are not going anywhere until its done so the longer they play silly beggars for the longer they are not tucked up in their own bed, works quite well :)

I didn't post to take the mickey or start a fight, nor do I regularly troll the coppers forums, it just popped up on the "Todays Posts" page and I was curious about what SPCP was (I still am actually).

Maybe the wording was not the best, but surely handling drunks is something that the RAFP have to do on an all too regular basis (and I really don't envy you), and should be done to death in training.

The original post just read like a cry for help at 1 AM leading me to imagine a copper frantically typing a cry for help while some drunk rampaged around the Guardroom. If it was just a general question to promote discussion then fair enough (but do you really want us to know your tricks?).

No offense meant, but it didn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling when I first read it.

You dont necessarily have to take the samples on arrest. If the GB is compliant, yes take your samples otherwise your just gonna be wasting your time and probably end up with rubbish prints etc. In my opinion the best time to obtain the samples is after interview. This is made a whole lot better if he has legal present. You may also take samples upon conviction.

No worries TLS thanks for the clarification. It was more about how to get their prints whilst drunk because even when sober some can find that a tad difficult.

Cool. Just as long as it wasn't "I've got this drunk, can somebody on the Internet help me"!:pDT_Xtremez_15:

Wouldn't the simplest thing be to give them amore booze until they pass out? You can do whatever you want with them then:pDT_Xtremez_14:

Don't know if it's the same for you lot but when I got nicked by the civvies a few years ago they weren't allowed to take any samples whilst I was considered under the influence. Had a brief with me who refused to let them take the samples, didn't do me any favours mind, I had to spend the night in the cells sobering up:pDT_Xtremez_09: .

For your information, SPCP means service police codes of practice.

I was not at work, i was at home having a bevvie with a few of my copper mates and as the new SPCP, sorry... Service Police Codes of Practice, was only bought in this month it was a general question to see if any one had actually had to use them yet.

Thanks Chip and foxy for your advice, should i come across the situation i might just have to try that. It's much appreciated.

NB, the new SPCP was actually brought into effect from 0001 hours on 1 Jan 07. If you were still working with the old ones til this month I would have a serious look at the incidents you have dealt with since then as Legal would have a field day if they found out. If you need to know anything else just give me a shout and Ill try and answer it.
