Why do they want LITS then? I bet it is because SAP is not as good as you make it out to be?

We only have problems due to the way the main server happens to be bolted up to a load of other systems as well and the server centre does not have the power supply capacity to support it!!

My contact in NZ (I am on MSN to her now) is a supplier...She is in a position to know, but has no knowledge of LITS being bought for them...They have recently started to include acft maintenance on SAP...I will try to get more clarification...

If they get the system as we have it now they will get a good system, as long as they train their guys properly. the problem is that when the system was first bought in it was p00h, and so people had a downer on it. it has been improved, but people are still scared to use it. when used properly it is a good system.

My God a voice of reason ! :pDT_Xtremez_17:
LITS would be fine if they used it properly, how true. If everyone did their little piece properly it would be fine. The problem's are caused by users not doing things properly, not reporting faults and using self invented work rounds. If you have a problem phone CMF it's what they're paid for and they are pretty good at sorting things out :pDT_Xtremez_28:

The system does fall down due to:

The rubbish training package that teachs nobody anything useful.

The Techie users that blindly doing actions (or inactions) when they are not sure of what they are doing. Common sense would suggest asking somebody who knows. Fairies are the worst curprits It is also not surprizing the number of people who do not check the states of the equipment before they do an asset exchange. however this leads onto >>>>>

Stackers. the bane of all techies using LITS. The supply bible is explict on actions to take with equipment for LITS when taking it on charge. Why then does hardly any station supply staff do it? And why does reconditioned assets from a non lits source get sent directly to tech stores and not to the relevent R2 facility to be have gateway action carried out in 9 out of 10 cases?:raf:

Olovv and Scaley Brat are right about the system. techies hate it due to lack of knowledge in why it works the way it does (remember the prototype SA design is over twenty years old now), and still haven't transfered from the language of MDS report (MDS having been dead for some time now on the LITS live fleets). LITS however is a massive improvement on the the old MDS for people who need the information. When my wobbly wants a record of work carried out on an aircraft over a six month period, as we capture all cards on LITS, I can pull off a report in a matter of 5 minutes with all the info. It saves me a 6 mile drive to dig through the archives! Short forecasts that would take an hour to copy take 10 minutes to do. A fault history on an asset is at my finger tips, not requiring me to phone up MDS and wait for a report to be faxed to me the next day. If people took a little time to understand it and apply this knowledge , the system would be even better.:pDT_Xtremez_28:

When you know how to use it (the reports for example), it's extremely useful. Olovv has been hijacked for other jobs because his work load is so small for the post he was sent to fill, because the lot I'm on have me to sort it out and he rarely gets called for!:pDT_Xtremez_31:

I take it you're not a francophile then? Why the tirade?:pDT_Xtremez_26:

Sorry but t was not meant to be a tirade, it’s just that I have this thing about the Europeans (especially the French) having a go against the British (as the Man U and Spurs recent games has shown).

I have spent many a happy exchange detachment with our European cousins and have enjoyed them (especially the Dutch and Germans) and after many Deci dets I have got to understand the Italians, especially after one of the best short notice dining-in-nights I have ever had.

Back to the post, if the Aussies can explain how LITS works, can they explain it to me so I can write it up for the new fitters course.

18 months, I have been trying to bring in LITS to the training world since 1999 but every time I do somebody manages to persuade the budget holders that their need is more important i.e. promotion to Group Captain, it will not last another 2 years (quote in 2001), all new trainees will be on Typhoon so they will not need LITS training, the training will be moved to St Athan in 2000 and frozen to death so why bother, etc.
