How many bods out there are putting up with all the sh1t nowadays past the 22 point? My 29 years is up today and I'm soul searching for a reason why I'm still in this totally different mob that we have today. Any help in diagnosing my obvious insanity would be welcome!:raf:

If you don't like then leave.

Your life is in your hands and no one is forcing you to stay. Bleating on about how bad things are does you and your Colleagues no good.

It wasn't a bleat, merely a muse. People put with sh1t wherever they work. It was intended as a light hearted opener and not for those too quick to jump to conclusions.:pDT_Xtremez_28:

Wouldn't stay past 22 even if I could. It is not the RAF I joined, and I based my future on AFP75!!

I've just gone through my 31 year point and you are right, it is a totally different Air Force now. But to me, this is the only life know. I have had an excellent life within the mob and would not have swapped it for anything. But there will be a time when I will leave and start a fresh life without Guard Commander duties, 6000's, H&S and QA. :pDT_Xtremez_09:
I think that we all go through the insanity point at some stage of our careers. :pDT_Xtremez_28:

I must admit, I've not been around this place very long and generally keep things within my own trade spectrum.

I've been sat here on nights, reading your posts from today, and I must say; you are either looking for a really big fight on your first day, or are the most bitter and twisted person I have seen contributing.

Are you this confrontational in real life, or the speccy geek in the crewroom who makes everybody a brew, hoping they will be liked one day?

Agreed...unless you took it out of context Tonka you do appear, on the evidence of this and recent posts, to be spoiling for a fight....

Don't spoil for a fight in general chit chat...it's in the public non-member view...if you need to get it out of your system there is the fight club.

To quote someone I work with

The RAF is like an immense sandcastle I've built, spent ages getting everything perfect, you know, like those madmen who go build the Taj Mahal in sand.....

But the last few years, the tide has started coming, and it's eating away at the base of it. I know sooner or later, it'll just be one big pile of sand again.

Sad really, I think he's done 27 years or something as well, and a top bloke.

Top analogy (apologies for the 1st 4 letters of the second word, might stray off topic!). I think the erosion of what we have held dear for so long is a tad frustrating to say the least especially when you think you can change things but realise it's an almost vertical uphill battle, and getting steeper if that's possible.

I agree it is getting worse by the minute. I however would not change a moment of my career(sorry Job) for one second i have had a ball most of the time. i do however feel sorry for the kids joining now Fcuk me you can't even enjoy yourself on DET now JPA has Fcuked everything up ( Fancy having to go to Vegas and spend your own cash), They have nothing to look forward to except S**t OOA Dets and produce the same amount of Aircraft with half the blokes. This is not a whinge TONKA but a sad fact of life in our New LEAN Air FARCE.

My dad did over 30yrs after joining as a spotty 16 yr old..(his words)..he took voluntary redundancy in 96 i think it was as he said that even then he could see the way things were going to go and he has been proved right...he did find it difficult for a couple of yrs in civvie street..but has been settled fopr some time now...but even he said that if he was young...he wouldnt join the forces with the state it is in now.

Will you sign on ?

In the current climate of quick OOA turnarounds, low moral and general unrest, If given the opportunity arose and the RAF asked you today to sign on, would you extend your terms of service ?

I have, signed on to 12 very recently.....

I like the job, I just can't stand the job I'm doing right now. I can see a lot of people binning out though. Should make promotion a bit easier for those staying eh?!

The thing is the newbies joining up now have no idea about the way it was-just listening to how good Bruggen was doesnt make a difference to them. Nowadays people are joining up and going home every nite back to mummy; they have nothing to miss from the old days.

I voted yes, but mainly because I want to put my kids through boarding school (one perk they haven't taken off us, yet). I will then have the freedom to leave at a time of my choosing.

Life beyond 22!

Life beyond 22!

To coin a phrase "The Services still do provide a standard of life not afforded by most other professions!" Cr4p asides I have to agree. I myself have accrued over 28 years service. In this ever shrinking pool of ours those remaining have the burden of shorter timescales between OOA tours, higher workload etc. etc....The list is endless. Nevertheless from my experience here it is; I have numerous acquaintances that I have known since schooldays, they remind me of Hobbits rarely venturing out of the Shire, I can tell you what day of the week they go to the pub, what they drink and their topics of conversation. Very little of it captivates my interest! Life is indeed what you make it, grasp every opportunity to experience all the Service has to offer, before you know it your Service will expire and you may become a Hobbit yourself.
