A couple of months back, there was a thread on cold calling. One member suggested signing up with the Telephone Preference Service that stop all unsolicited direct marketing calls to your home number.

Since registering my home number with the TPS, Ive notice an increase in unsolicited calls!!.

You can complain online of unwanted marketing companies that have called you but twice I receive the same written reply :

Despite our best efforts TPS has not been able to ascertain address details of this particular complaint.

Was it worth registering my number with them, I think not !!.

What that means is that you have been targeted by Johnny Foreigner and the TPS can't (at the moment) lean on offshore cold calling

Hu,

That I agree with, however it was from " The Link " trying to sell me a mobile phone!. They were owned by the Dixons Group but now sold off to O2/Vodafone/T-Mobile who all have UK based HQ's!!!

How to Stop Calls

How to Stop Calls

Ask them where they got your number from, and call that company back asked to be removed from calling list.

Every time you get called, ask then to take your number of the list they have.

Tell them your a member of T.PS.

It will take a few months but you should see a massive reduction in calls.

I get 1, maybe 2 calls a year.

P.s Also every time you give your address or No to a company ask for no mailings and calls.

These dicks keep on calling from a withheld number!. I have asked before but I must be speaking in Urdu as that dont understand. I would have the call-barring service for withheld numbers but due to the nature of my charity work, alot of calls I get are from witheld numbers.

change your No.

change your No.

Well if your not happy you could -

a. Change your No.

b. Register the new No. on T.P.S.

c. Only give out your new No. to people who you wish to call you.

Might seem harsh but if you want it to stop well......................

Good points but further to my orgininal post, I seemed to be getting more unwanted calls since I registered with TPS!

gunnerrock, that doesn't always work.

I had my number changed thanks to a massive amount of cold calling, 2 weeks later I get a call from "Loopy Mobiles" asking if I wanted some mobile phone. I was especially annoyed as BT made my phone ex-directory AND any time I ring out it is a witheld number.

I went fookin ballistic at him and he hung up on me. Seen as I had the company name, straight to google for a customer service number. I left a message that I expect the head of sales to ring me to apologise. I was not a happy bunny!

Mono that will be because BT re-use telephone numbers!

I can't recall the amount of calls I have had for the previous user of my telephone number!!

So if you do change your number with BT ensure you tell them you want a completely new number!

On the subject of BT.

When I changed to Wireless with them. My Outlook Express box is now filled with spam mail addressed to me like Hello Mr Moriarty!!.

Now I wonder who let all these marketing companies have my BT e-mail addy!!.

Thankfully I dont touch Outlook express or my BT addy associated with it.
